Abstract
The Community Dispute Resolution Centers Program (CDRCP) is an alternative to formal court proceedings. In fiscal year 1998, 40,113 cases were screened as appropriate for direct services by the centers, serving 90,865 people. Of the 40,113 cases, the centers conducted 22,834 conciliations, mediations and arbitrations serving 54,207 people. In 77 percent of the matters that reached the mediation stage, the parties entered into voluntary agreements. The centers handled 70 felony cases. It took 14 days from intake to final disposition for the average single-hearing dispute resolution and 52 days for the average multiple-hearing case. The centers reported more than $4.5 million in mutual agreements and arbitration awards, with the average amount per case being approximately $1,200. The report includes program developments, frequently asked questions, and local program summaries. Figures, tables, appendixes
