Recognizing the response of police and courts to juvenile delinquents needs to be improved and expanded and the importance of family standards and values, British proposals focus on the trend toward depreciation of authority, parental responsibility, the importance of education in the socialization process, violence prevention in schools, child protection, and better coordination among national government agencies. The proposals also deal with the role of mental health services in juvenile delinquency prevention and the influence of media portrayals of violence. A renewed approach to juvenile delinquency prevention by police and courts is advocated, and changes to the juvenile justice system are suggested.
