This volume presents and discusses more than 300 drawings by young children to reveal the full spectrum of normal and abnormal development and to aid in the diagnosis of learning disabilities, cerebral palsy, hearing loss, personality disorders, communication disorders, and other conditions.
Abstract
The major portion of the volume presents the representations of the normal children, starting with the scrawls of the 13-month-old and continuing with the progression of drawings through the years up to the beginning of elementary school. The text discusses child development and the significance of features of particular drawings. It also explains the procedures used to produce the drawings and concludes that drawings are useful aids to understanding children and their problems in that they are less susceptible than speech to the influence of defenses.
