This videotape offers crime prevention tips and materials for law enforcement and community organizations on the topic of cultural diversity.
Abstract
Using an audience participation approach to the discussion of cultural diversity, the videotape covers diversity and associated issues that affect individuals, organizations, and communities. The focus is on demographic trends, and contemporary society. Specific cultural diversity issues are discussed in terms of race and ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, elderly citizens, and persons with disabilities. Culture is defined to include such dimensions as religion, values, and traditions. In addition, cultural diversity is addressed in the context of knowledge and attitudes people learn in schools, physical and personality characteristics of individuals, and group dynamics. Ways to effectively address cultural diversity in the law enforcement field and other professions are identified, and guidelines on dealing with issues of diversity and equality are offered.
