Conference participants addressed what works in assessing female offender risks and needs, multiple linkages and wraparound services in the context of community corrections for women, the creation of gender-specific treatment for substance-abusing women and girls in community correctional settings, promising perspectives on and effective strategies for female juvenile offenders, and the recidivism of female offenders in community corrections. The first presentation reviewed offender assessment and classification practices used with female offenders and determined systematic offender risk and needs assessment strategies and standards of practice need to be improved. The second presentation discussed the concept of wrapping community resources into an individualized support plan for female offenders in response to the needs of vulnerable or at-risk populations. The third presentation considered the importance of designing a drug treatment program that meets the needs of female offenders and looked at gender-specific treatment services for women. The fourth presentation covered characteristics of young girls at risk, problems with traditional juvenile delinquency programs, and effective programs for female juvenile offenders. The fifth presentation offered perspectives on the evaluation of programs for female offenders in community corrections. References, tables, and figures
