This is an analysis of detention of juveniles and incarceration of adults in local facilities in North Dakota during 1997.
Abstract
The section on Juvenile Detention data includes Definitions, Detention Setting, Facility, Characteristics of Persons Detained, Reason for Detention, Initial Legal Status/Final Release Status, Placing Agency, Length of Detention, and Month of Intake. These data reflect 1991 changes to the form for reporting juvenile detention data. The juvenile record collects more detailed information than is collected by the adult incarceration form and allows for reporting attendant care and supervision in other non-secure settings. Adult incarceration data include Adult Incarceration Totals, Facility, Characteristics of Persons Incarcerated, Reason for Incarceration, Legal Status at Intake/Release Status, and Length of Incarceration. Because the same individuals may be incarcerated numerous times in one or a number of facilities, the report is not a measure of the number of individuals incarcerated, but is rather an indication of the number of times the incarceration process was initiated.
