This book contains summary statistics on felons, civil narcotic addicts and other populations under the jurisdiction of the California Department of Corrections in 1995 and 1996.
Abstract
Data are presented in seven sections: (1) Overview of the California Department of Corrections (CDC) population; (2) Institution Population; (3) Behavior of Inmates in CDC Institutions; (4) Felon New Admissions; (5) Parole Violators Returned With a New Term; (6) Parole Violators Returned to Custody; and (7) Parole and Outpatient Population. The report also contains a reference guide with institution acronyms, names and locations; county and area of commitment map; county and region of parole map; and a glossary of terms and acronyms. On December 31, 1996, the total CDC population was 272,136; 100,935 felons and civil narcotic addicts were on parole; the institution population was 145,565; and the CDC institutions and camps population was 192.3 percent of the design bed capacity (72,621). There were 46,465 felon new admissions to CDC during calendar year 1996. Figures, tables, notes, glossary
