The first table shows the total admissions for felons first released to parole in calendar year 1998. The next two tables present these data for male and female felons first released to parole in calendar year 1998. The next three tables present the same type of data for new felon admissions first released to parole. The last three tables report data on parole violators with a new term for the total number of felons first released to parole and for female and male felons first released to parole. During 1998, 60,500 felon inmates were paroled for the first time from a California Department of Corrections (CDC) institution. The total mean time served in CDC institutions and in custody prior to CDC was 23.1 months. The median time served was 17 months. The total mean time served for personal offenses (crimes against persons) was 36.8 months, with males serving 8.2 months longer than females (29 months for females and 37.2 months for males). Time served for property offenses was 16.2 months for females and 21 months for males. Time served for drug offenses was 16.4 months for females and 19.7 months for males.
