The curriculum was produced after an extensive needs assessment of Florida's drug court teams. Following a report on the lessons learned from the first generation of Florida's drug courts based on a needs assessment for training the second generation, the manual presents the agenda prepared for the Florida drug court training conference. This is followed by an outline of the instructional objectives and information presented in the sessions for the Florida conference. Instructional objectives and an outline of the information presented are provided for each of the 13 plenary sessions. The topics covered in these sessions were the biopsychosocial dimensions of addiction, attitude changes, recovery principles, drug testing, the interplay of treatment and criminal justice systems, eligibility criteria, the family, community resources, dual disorders, looking into the future, strategies for managing relapse, principles of marketing, and team problem-solving. Instructional objectives and an outline of information presented are also provided for workshops that addressed community resources, acupuncture and 12-step programs, psychopharmacology, understanding and interacting with addicts, the law and professional conflicts, an overview of court processes, drug court and treatment principles for special populations, data and evaluation systems, drug testing for drug courts, sanctions, and networking. The concluding section of the manual reviews the evaluation instrument prepared for the Florida training conference and analyzes the results of the evaluation. Appended supplementary information
