This document is intended to enhance the safety and prevent crime in refugee communities by promoting law enforcement-refugee partnerships.
Abstract
The document offers background and specific examples of refugee customs and norms that are likely to result in or contribute to conflicts with U.S. laws. It also suggests a variety of actions, partnerships and resources to help address these kinds of issues. The book contains five chapters, which address, among other topics: (1) areas of conflict between culture and code and how this book can help resolve the conflicts; (2) how refugees and law enforcement can address difficult questions and provide alternative solutions; (3) finding common ground, building partnerships, and managing conflicts in a partnership; and (4) organizations and publications that can provide help.
