Abstract
The book places much emphasis on effective and efficient training. A successful Explosive Detection Dog team training program depends on the quality of the dog, the quality of the handler and what the handler learns that is appropriate to the functions the team will be performing. It is important that the dog and the handler be suited to the work and that they work together on scenario training to help create an efficient Detection Team. The book discusses how to choose an explosive detection dog; testing the dog’s personality and behavior; training methods; scenario training; search training rules and on-scene conduct; course certification and problem solving; budgets, courses and specialty units and scheduling; training with explosives; the Internet; storage and transportation; first-aid and health; and laws to know.
