Abstract
Students are introduced to methods of identifying and classifying data, followed by explanations and demonstrations of statistical procedures. The extensive use of flowcharts and examples from criminal justice research further aids in student understanding. Important topics covered in the text include levels of measurement and what types of data to use with different statistical procedures, the interpretation of univariate analysis in conducting research, the proper use of graphs and tables in statistical analysis and publication, contingency table and other bivariate analysis and interpretation, multivariate analysis and regression, and theory and interpretation of inferential statistical procedures. The author combines theory, methodology, and statistics in the context of criminal justice research. A diskette containing statistical data for the examples in the text is provided. Appendixes contain a math review and practice test and a list of variables. References, tables, and figures
