This report explains the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program and presents statistics on crime and arrests reported by 165 police agencies through the Nebraska UCR Program during 1998.
Abstract
A total of 71,901 index offenses were reported or known to law enforcement in 1998. The 7,376 violent crimes included 53 murders or manslaughters, 416 forcible rapes, 1,289 robberies, and 5,618 aggravated assaults. The 64,525 property crimes included 10,247 burglaries, 48,073 larceny-thefts, 5,749 motor vehicle thefts, and 456 arsons. Larceny-theft accounted for 67 percent of the total index offenses. The clearance rate was 26.8 percent, compared to a national clearance rate of 22 percent. The statistics for 1998 also included 4,158 domestic assaults and 101,247 arrests, an increase of 3 percent over the arrests for 1997. Persons under age 18 years accounted for 21.l percent of the total arrests; individuals ages 12-17 years represented 10 percent of the State's total population. One hundred six police agencies reported 51 hate crimes in 1998. A total of 222 assaults on law enforcement officers took place in 1998. Tables and figures
