Abstract
The document presents 18 principles that the Information Technology Association of America established to guide policy on national information security (InfoSec) issues. Included in that list are: (1) basing national information infrastructure on a minimum of government regulation; (2) industry owns and operates the Global Information Infrastructure and should have primary authority for InfoSec requirements, design and implementation; (3) positive interaction between government and industry is essential; (4) distinctions must be made among cyber-mischief, cyber-crime and cyber-war to clarify jurisdictional issues and determine appropriate responses; (5) existing laws must be adapted as necessary to allow appropriate levels of information sharing among companies and between the private sector and government; and (6) emergency response organizations must gain sufficient disaster recovery expertise to minimize the effect of catastrophic events on the information infrastructure. The document lists 45 vendors, their specialties and descriptions of their services.
