This is a summary of proceedings at the 1999 Annual Conference on Criminal Justice Research and Evaluation.
Abstract
The conference featured plenary and keynote sessions on looking at crime from the street level, research-based policy concerning school violence, and women and girls in the justice system. Panel sessions reviewed building collaborations for research and evaluations, findings and results from State and local evaluations, Bureau of Justice Assistance partnerships between evaluators and program managers on drug courts, assessment and delinquency prevention in schools, and results from the Byrne Evaluation Partnership Program. Research and discussion roundtables examined 16 topics, including local-level anti-crime efforts, local drug courts, increasing community safety, getting lawyers to be problem solvers and peer court evaluation. Conference workshops focused on frugal evaluation for justice policy decisions, collection, assessment and use of program evaluation results, evaluating treatment services components of criminal justice programs, and a new evaluation framework for determining effective State and local programs.
