The United Nations (UN) Ad Hoc Committee on the Elaboration of a Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime was established in 1998; a goal was to draft protocols dealing with illegal trafficking in women and children, firearms and ammunition, and migrants.
Abstract
The committee met in 1999 to conduct its work on transnational organized crime. The committee discussed international legal instruments and the importance of international cooperation. Specific activities and responsibilities of the committee are described in the context of meetings on the development of draft protocols. Annexes contain a list of UN member participants, intergovernmental organizations, and non-governmental organizations involved in committee meetings, as well as a list of documents available to the committee.
