This is a guidebook to police report writing.
Abstract
The book provides generic elements of report design to help police report writers convey information honestly, clearly, concisely, and completely. It attempts to assist the writer of any police communication in understanding the importance of clear writing from a broader perspective, not just from the limited point of view of any single department or officer. All examples are real, focusing not on high-profile media-sensationalized cases, but on routine, mundane, day-to-day documentation. The book was originally planned for use in a college course or police academy. However, it is also useful as a tool for Field Training Officers in preparing the new officer for independence, for supervisors in aiding officers having difficulty with written communication or as part of a comprehensive in-service training program. The book includes classroom training exercises. Notes, figures
