Laser rangefinders enable SWAT team snipers to work efficiently; one of the units made especially for law enforcement and the military should fit an agency’s specific needs.
Abstract
Laser rangefinders calculate distance by measuring the time of flight of a beam of infrared light. The type of laser used in most rangefinders is an FDA Class I infrared semiconductor laser diode and is safe for the eyes. A laser rangefinder works best when the object is at a 90-degree angle. All rangefinders are built along a monocular design. Most include a normal mode; a scan mode; a through mode; and an indicator of quality, accuracy, or both. Available models include the Nikon Buckmaster Laser 800, the Bushnell 800, and the Impulse Model made by Laser Technology, Inc. The only limit on the uses for modern laser rangefinders is the imagination of the user. However, no tool can replace good policing. Therefore, police should learn their job basics well and then learn how to integrate modern laser rangefinder technology into their work. Photographs
