CJIS-Web is a computer system that enables police departments to access text and images, including fingerprints, and to weave together such functions as dispatch, incident tracking, and booking.
Abstract
The Boston Police Department uses CJIS-Web, and the goal is to install the system throughout the department so that police detectives and supervisors will have access. Looking down the road, the Boston Police Department wants to install CJIS-Web in patrol cars. Although CJIS-Web uses Internet standards internally, the system is actually an Intranet application. To change something in the system, only the software that runs on the web server needs to be changed. Various CJIS-Web tools allow enhanced viewing and printing capabilities. In addition, the system allows images, including fingerprints, to be decompressed. The goal of CJIS-Web is to provide a low-cost and nonproprietary way of accessing and viewing a database of scanned fingerprints, mug shots, other images, scanned documents, and text data. 3 photographs
