An international training course was sponsored by the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders in 1998 that dealt with economic and computer crimes.
Abstract
The training course explored the best means to effectively combat economic and computer crimes by discussing how to strengthen the criminal justice system. This was accomplished primarily through comparative analysis of the current situation and problems in participating countries. Participants agreed that the prevention of economic and computer crimes would not be easy, and the training course provided a forum for the exchange of information and views on how criminal justice agencies in participating countries detect, investigate, and prosecute economic and computer crime cases. Discussions highlighted the importance of establishing more efficient criminal justice systems and effective countermeasures and the need to increase international cooperation to eliminate economic and computer crimes. Lecture topics focused on such areas as police organization, prosecution, credit card fraud, economic crime and the global economy, and criminal investigation.
