The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction invites local business leaders to job fairs at Ohio prisons. As a prerequisite to participation in the job fairs, inmates must be within 90 days of release and are required to produce a current resume and participate in classroom training to develop interviewing skills. Staff from Human Services and the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services assist the Department in preparing the offenders for interviews. As of Fall 1998, 1,300 inmates and approximately 70 employers had participated in 34 job fairs across the State. About 22 percent of participating inmates were offered employment following their release, while another 50 percent were encouraged to report after release for additional interviewing and consideration. The booklet discusses using teleconferencing technology to link government and corrections officials, correctional institutions, and soon-to-be-released inmates in employment seminars. It also describes six prison programs: Ohio Penal Industries, Community Service, Educational Programs, Vocational Education and Apprenticeships, Pre-Release and the Offender Services Network, and Rehabilitative Programming.
