This report contains statistics regarding the number and characteristics of referrals made to Missouri’s juvenile courts in 1998.
Abstract
The numbers represented in this report are not individual children, but separately disposed court referrals. A referral is defined as “any action involving a juvenile which results in a determination, finding or outcome and a written record maintained in the juvenile’s name.” The Juvenile Court Overview discusses: Race and Gender Comparisons; Referral Types, Trends, Sources and Disposition; Most Common Major Allegations; Certifications to Adult Court; and Pre-Hearing Placements. Law Violation Referrals reviews Law Violation Outcomes, Prior Violations and Age Distribution of Law Violators. Status Offense Referrals describes Status Offense Outcomes and Placements. Abuse, Neglect and Custody Referrals discusses Abuse, Neglect and Custody Outcomes and Age Distribution of such referrals. Appendixes present statistics on referral outcomes by Circuit and County; out-of-home placements; in-home services; and number of juveniles certified to adult court by circuit, race and gender.
