Abstract
Consideration is paid to the Global Forum on Corruption that was chaired by Vice President Gore in February 1999 to address the issue of safeguarding integrity among justice and security officials who are charged with upholding law and order. The issue also examines efforts by international organizations, such as the United Nations, the European Union, and the World Bank, and by private sector organizations to curb corruption. Further, the issue describes U.S. initiatives and other initiatives throughout the world to deal with corruption and bribery. No country alone can effectively counter the corruption that has affected international trade and political life. International cooperation is essential, particularly since societies in transition are often susceptible to corruption. Economic influences on corruption are discussed, as well as international solutions to the problem of corruption.
