This video recognizes special awards for courageous response to hate crimes.
Abstract
The video reviews briefly events surrounding two hate crimes: a black man who was tied to the rear bumper of a truck and dragged to his death, and a young gay man who was beaten and left to die after being tied to a fence on an open prairie. The family of James Byrd, Jr. and the parents of Matthew Shepard are acknowledged in this video for founding organizations to speak out against hate crimes and to vigorously promote the ideas of tolerance and understanding, to help citizens learn to embrace their differences and live together peacefully.
