Abstract
This booklet describes the JUMP (Juvenile Mentoring Program) program. Mentoring, a one-on-one relationship between an adult and a child who are unrelated, has been found to provide positive results in the lives of at-risk young people. Mentored youth were found to earn higher grades in school and to be less likely to initiate alcohol or drug use during the mentoring period. Goals and objectives of the program are described. A description of the application process and requirements is included. Applicants must define their project goals and objectives. Criteria for selecting mentors and mentees; plans for securing and maintaining parental involvement; the process for ongoing monitoring and feedback; and budget details are some of the topics to be described in detail in the application packet. Up to $210,000 is available for each award for the 3-year budget and project periods.
