Following an introductory chapter, a chapter outlines some conceptual and methodological considerations that have guided the approach to this review. This is followed by a chapter that sets the scene with a discussion of age, blame, and the age of criminal responsibility, as well as a portrait of adolescent crime derived from criminal statistics, victim surveys, and self-report data. Chapter 4 focuses on the major increase in crime that has occurred in most countries over the last half century, and Chapter 5 reviews what is known about heterogeneity in antisocial behavior. Two chapters summarize what is known about various delinquency causal factors, followed by two chapters that discuss gender differences in delinquency and life-span developmental issues. Two chapters review what is known about prevention and intervention, summarizing the conceptual and theoretical perspectives in order to consider policy and practice implications. The final chapter highlights a series of significant findings from the review and discusses the relationship of research to policy and practice. 1,350 references and a subject index
