This report presents corrections statistics for Tennessee and summarizes the activities of the Tennessee Department of Corrections for fiscal year 1998-99.
Abstract
The report notes that enhanced collection efforts resulted in the collection of $4,316,100 in probation fees, which amounted to an overall increase of 128 percent in collections since fiscal year 1994-95. The department added 1,536 beds through new construction, as well as 10 beds without construction costs. The department of corrections experienced a total of 11,344 male and 1,446 female felony admissions during fiscal year 1998-99. A total of 9.7 percent of the felony admissions were for sentences of 1 year, 20.6 percent were for 1-2 years, 18.1 percent were for 2-3 years, 10 percent were for 3-4 years, 5 percent were for 4-5 years, 6.6 percent were for 5-6 years, 17 percent were for 6-10 years, and the rest were for longer periods. A total of 0.5 percent were life sentences, 0.1 percent were for life without parole, and 0.1 percent were for capital punishment. Figures, tables, staff directory, and list of publications
