The 10 sections of the book discuss: (1) planning, design, construction process and issues; (2) special populations, including housing for sexual predators who have completed their original sentences; (3) several service areas from both adult and juvenile perspectives; (4) spaces needed to house services described in the previous section; (5) administrative functions and space needs; (6) service facilities; (7) options and goals of security systems; (8) procedures for preparing the facility and staff after building construction has been completed; (9) privatization; and (10) perspectives on the future. Of special interest are hybrid correctional institutions designed and built for geriatric inmates. Some have grown old while incarcerated and may require higher levels of health and mental health services as well as barrier-free accessibility to programs and housing and other services not unlike residents of a nursing home or assisted-care living facility.
