The ART program is described in eight chapters of the book. The first two chapters orient the reader to the problem of aggression and attempt to place the ART program in the context of this real and present problem. The second chapter overviews the ART program, illustrating how ART program components are integrated in one curriculum. The next three chapters describe the heart of the ART program. Each chapter is devoted to a single program component--skill-streaming, anger control, or moral reasoning. In addition, each chapter describes the background and rationale for the component's use, discusses particular implementation concerns, and presents step-by-step training procedures to ensure effective group sessions. The next two chapters focus on areas critical to ART program success, trainee motivation and resistance and the importance of generalizing performance. Contributions of the ART program to preventing and reducing aggression in young people are briefly summarized. Additional information is appended on ART program components.
