The chapter discusses major laws affecting Federal victims of crime, the 1995 Attorney General Guidelines for Victim and Witness Assistance, the Office for Victims of Crime response to coordinate services and assistance to Federal crime victims, the availability and coordination of victims’ rights and services at the Federal level, and significant Federal initiatives that have strengthened victims’ rights and services at the Federal level. Federal criminal jurisdiction extends to all crimes occurring on federal land, crimes including an interstate component and crimes involving a specific connection to the Federal government. The chapter reviews some of the provisions of six significant laws affecting Federal victims of crime: Victim and Witness Protection Act of 1982, Victims of Crime Act of 1984, Crime Control Act of 1990, Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, Mandatory Victims Restitution Act of 1996 and Victims’ Rights Clarification Act of 1997.
