The videotape presents the proceedings of October 2000 conference on Comprehensive Framework for School Violence Prevention. The conference noted that preventing school violence requires careful examination of the people, relationships, resources, activities, facilities, and surrounding neighborhoods that comprise the school community. In addition, the conference indicated that resources for school violence prevention are scarce and that knowing how to proceed efficiently is as important as knowing what to do. A comprehensive framework for school violence prevention is outlined that breaks down what needs to be done to prevent violence into six categories--administrative approaches, school security, school-wide education in violence prevention, counseling, alternative education, and community involvement. The framework involves the following action steps: unite schools with their communities to prevent violence, identify and measure the problem of school violence, set goals and objectives, identify appropriate strategies, implement a comprehensive plan, measure the success of the effort, and revise strategies based on evaluation.
