This brochure indicates members of the American Bar Association (ABA) can play a unique role in preventing the abuse of illicit drugs and alcohol by using their knowledge of the legal system and influence in the community to develop solutions.
Abstract
Following brief discussions of what drug abuse is and the extent of the problem and the effects of drug abuse on violence, crime, and society, the brochure addresses the role of lawyers in dealing with individuals who face challenging or stressful circumstances in their work and personal lives and who may abuse drugs to cope. The brochure recommends lawyers observe risk factors and learn what resources are available to help those who abuse drugs. The brochure lists resources available to help prevent drug abuse and outlines specific actions members of the ABA can take in their practice and in the community to prevent drug abuse.
