This is a report on the state of the Virginia judiciary in 1999.
Abstract
The report includes organizational charts of the Virginia Judicial Branch and Court Structure. The report is divided into seven sections. The first section reviews major activities of the judicial system, including a summary of courts' jurisdiction and structure and information on provision of indigent defense services and the involuntary mental commitment process. Caseload Summaries presents a survey of activity in the 31 circuits and 32 districts in the Commonwealth. Judicial Policy Making Bodies presents the names of individuals serving on the Judicial Council, the Committee on District Courts and the Judicial Conferences and their committees. The remaining four sections present the names and terms of justices and judges serving in the State's various courts; personnel, salary and classification plans for the district courts and magistrate system; detailed and summary caseload data for all circuit and district courts; and expenditure and review data for circuit and district courts.
