Abstract
Several cases went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. Many others are still being discussed and debated in classrooms and courtrooms throughout the United States. For each Supreme Court case, information is provided on the issue, the facts, the ruling, and related cases. Issues covered in the cases concern whether teenagers can go to court on their own to protect their rights, whether parents have the right to control education, sexual harassment at school and at work, drug testing and school sports, privacy rights at school, whether teenagers can be tried as adults, abortion without parental consent, freedom of expression at school, school censorship, prayer in school, parental and school discipline, whether teenagers can be hospitalized for mental health treatment against their will, grandparent visitation, whether teenagers can request a jury of their peers, and whether teenagers can be sentenced to death. The book also includes special question-and-answer sections about the Supreme Court and the Constitution, plus simple instructions on how to conduct legal research. A glossary of legal terms is provided.
