The first chapter of the text deals with sources, distinctions, and limitations in relation to criminal law and sets the stage for an understanding of criminal law concepts. The second chapter describes in general terms the principles of general liability, such as criminal act requirements and criminal state of mind. Subsequent chapters define and explain the crimes most frequently encountered--offenses against persons, property crimes, theft, forgery, fraud, white-collar and corporate crimes, offenses involving morality and decency, offenses against the public peace, offenses against public justice and administration, drug-related offenses, and preparatory activity crimes. Final chapters of the text focus on possible defenses that can be claimed by persons charged with crimes and juvenile offenses. Leading decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court, lower Federal courts, and state courts are listed to give the reader an understanding of the application of specific laws. Appendixes contain sections of the U.S. Code and a table of cases and a study guide accompany the text. Footnotes
