This guide describes an initiative underway in Alaska, the establishment of Boys and Girls Clubs to help young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, realize their full potential as productive and responsible citizens.
Abstract
The guide is designed to clearly depict how Alaskan native and rural communities can develop Boys and Girls Clubs in their own areas. The guide is organized in six parts. The first part covers how Boys and Girls Clubs can help young people by focusing on youth services, the needs of native youth, advantages of the Boys and Girls Club model, support available through the Department of Housing and Urban Development for Boys and Girls Clubs, and Alaska's statewide development and outreach strategy. The second and third parts detail how to begin, operate, and fund a Boys and Girls Club. The fourth part contains profiles of Boys and Girls Clubs serving rural and native Alaska. The fifth and six parts include contact information and sample materials. Figures and photographs
