The primary mission of the National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD) is to facilitate and encourage research in the field of criminal justice through sharing data resources, and this document identifies data collections available from the NACJD.
Abstract
Specific goals of the NACJD are to provide computer-readable data for the empirical study of crime and the criminal justice system through the development of a central data archive, to supply technical assistance in selecting data collections and the computer hardware and software for efficiently analyzing data, and to train in quantitative methods of social science research to facilitate secondary analysis of criminal justice data. Most of the crime and justice data described in the data collections can be freely acquired via the NACJD web site. Some data collections relevant to crime and justice topics, however, are not freely available but are presented in the document for the user's information. Data collections are organized according to 11 categories: attitude surveys, community studies, corrections, court case processing, courts, criminal justice system, crime and delinquency, official statistics, police, victimization, and drugs and crime. Entries in each data collection note the author and the title of the study and contain a brief description.
