This is a Nebraska statewide crime report for 1997.
Abstract
This annual report presents data on crime and arrests reported by law enforcement agencies through the Nebraska Uniform Crime Reporting Program. The report is divided into seven chapters: (1) Uniform Crime Reporting Program; (2) Crime Index Offenses - 1997; (3) Nebraska Arrest Data; (4) Officers Assaulted; (5) Law Enforcement Employee Data; (6) Offense Data by County; and (7) Arrest Data by County. A total of 70,294 index offenses were reported or known to law enforcement in 1997. Violent crimes (murder and manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) totaled 7,223. Property crimes (burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson) totaled 63,071. Larceny-Theft accounted for 67 percent of the total index offenses. A total of 18,489 index offenses were reported cleared in 1997, a clearance rate of 26.3 percent. Arrests reported in 1997 (97,941) represented an increase of 3 percent over 1996. Persons under the age of 18 accounted for 20.9 percent of the total arrests. Tables, figures
