Abstract
The 1999 conference was co-sponsored in Houston, TX, by Mayor Lee Brown and the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas, the Honorable Mervyn Mosbacker. More than 1,400 people, representing 120 sites, attended the conference. Highlights of the 1999 conference included video footage of activities at sites throughout the country, an opportunity to examine the New Orleans Mobile Community Outreach Police Station van, a keynote address by U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno, and an exhibit hall that reproduced the sights and sounds of typical streets in typical U.S. communities. Exhibitors filled more than 100 tables with information about their sites, programs, and services. The document also contains articles about awards to personnel and organizations for their community service activities and a description of Connecticut's New Britain and Bridgeport Drug Education for Youth program.
