Abstract
The lead article describes an address by Grammy Award winner Mary J. Blige at the Mott Haven, NY, Safe Night USA event. The event encouraged youth to get off the streets and come into the park to learn about the revitalization of this Weed & Seed site. Another article discusses a national impact report on Weed & Seed programs in eight States. The report found that Weed & Seed has been a strong stimulant to community coalition building and that most target communities now have beneficial neighborhood programs and organizations that likely would not have come into existence without Weed & Seed. A third article describes a Drug Education for Youth (DEFY) camp for 28 at-risk boys and girls aged 9 to 12 from Melbourne, Brevard County, FL. Additional articles discuss: Detroit's "Police Officers Are Your Friends" program; an Ocala, FL, program for seniors; an East Chicago skating party for youth; the Miami Empowerment Zone/Enterprise Community Public Safety Conference; Milwaukee Neighborhood Cleanup and Drug Prevention Expo; and the Atlanta Spring Break Youth Camp.
