Following a description of the NYSP organizational structure, the report provides highlights of NYSP's efforts for 1999. One of the highlights was the expansion of the State DNA Databank (collection of DNA profiles obtained from biological evidence recovered at crime scenes and from the blood samples of designated offenders) to encompass 65 percent of all felony convictions. Another highlight was the setting of a highway safety record in 1998, with the fewest highway deaths in recent history. Also highlighted are the NYSP's successful management of the crowds at "Woodstock '99", the successful preparation of computer systems for Y2K, school and community outreach, and the growth of the NYSP Internet site (www.troopers.state.ny.us). Reports on each of the NYSP troops include descriptions of particular cases and information on counties served, the size of the population served, and the locations of headquarters and stations. Information on the NYSP as a whole also addresses awards, investigative details, forensic investigative support services, uniform specialized services, administrative operations, employee relations and training, the work of Division Counsel, internal affairs, and statistical data on offenses and arrests.
