This publication describes the structure and organization of components of the criminal justice system in Japan.
Abstract
The first chapter looks specifically at the police, prosecution, courts, corrections, and rehabilitation. The second chapter examines crime trends, penal code offenses, and special law offenses. The third chapter looks at pretrial and trial procedures in criminal cases, with emphasis on indictment, preparation for trial, evidentiary rules, adjudication, sentencing, appeals, extraordinary remedies, punishment, compensation for innocence, and special procedures for juvenile cases.
