Abstract
The first section of this report provides an overview of Ohio's courts that includes the structure of the judicial system and descriptions of the Ohio Supreme Court, courts of appeals, Court of Claims, courts of common pleas, municipal and county courts, and mayor's courts. Also provided in this section are an appellate district map and information on jurisdictional distribution. Remaining sections of the report provide caseload and case-processing data for the various types of courts. Data address overall caseloads, new cases filed, and matters distinctive to each type of court. Data show that a total of 3,225,665 new cases were filed in Ohio's courts in 1999: 2,327 in the Supreme Court; 10,762 in the courts of appeals; 621,045 in the courts of common pleas; 2,308,323 in the municipal courts; 281,788 in the county courts; and 1,420 in the Ohio Court of Claims.
