This videocassette, produced by the Office for Victims of Crime, documents the work and accomplishments of five honorees and two special leadership award winners. Among the honorees was Dilsa Rohan Capdeville, a therapist for children and adults who have been victims of child sexual abuse. She is the co-founder of Kidscope, Inc, in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. The next presentation was about Susan Kelly-Dreiss and her work to help victims of domestic violence. She is the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The third presentation focused on The Center for Victims of Torture in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which offers a safe haven for people who have suffered torture. The fourth honoree was the Alaska Native Women Sexual Assault Committee in Anchorage. This Committee helped to raise public awareness about women’s safety issues after seven women in Anchorage were murdered. The final honoree was The Children’s Assessment Center in Houston, Texas, where the staff provides a fun and safe environment for abused children. The segment on the Special Leadership Awards included a presentation about Judi Conway Patton, the First Lady of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. She has committed her resources to fighting child abuse and violence against women in the home. The second award was presented to the Honorable John L. Collins who strives for fairness in his courtroom in Yamhill County, Oregon.
