This issue of the National Drug Court Institute Review takes a look at three areas of the drug court field: the effectiveness of coerced treatment, countywide approaches to drug court systems, and family drug treatment courts.
Abstract
In this issue of the National Drug Court Institute Review, four important areas regarding drug courts are discussed: making a case for “coerced treatment” or “mandated treatment” as being effective in rescuing addicts from their “careers” of abuse; the development of countywide drug court systems in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, California whose success depends on strong stake holder involvement, the development of countywide policies and operating procedures, and countywide Management Information Systems; the unique issues facing the Jackson County, Missouri, Family Treatment Court with respect to the best interest of the child or children, treatment plans and sanctions and incentives, as well as success indicators; and a research update on seven recent drug court research evaluations.
