From the February 1999 survey onward, results are on a new basis, since the rules that previously excluded longer cases are no longer applied. This change means that some intervals in 1999 and 2000 are slightly longer than they would have been on the old basis. Findings show that for indictable cases the average time from offense to completion for defendants in indictable cases decreased to 110 days in June 2000 from 126 days in June 1999, and the average time from offense to charge or laying of information decreased to 42 days from 49 days in June 1999; however, the average time from first listing to completion increased to 60 days in June 2000 from 54 days in June 1999. Considering only those defendants who were charged, the average time from charge to first listing decreased to 6 days in June 2000 from 21 days in June 1999; however, the average time from first listing to completion increased to 59 days in June 2000 from 55 days in June 1999. The average time from offense to completion for defendants in indictable cases in Youth Courts decreased to 94 days in June 2000 from 101 days in June 1999. The average time from charge or laying of information to first listing decreased to 8 days from 20 days in June 2000; however, the average time from first listing to completion increased from 50 days in June 1999 to 56 days in June 2000. 5 figures, 8 tables, and 12 notes
