Abstract
One table presents the number of persons aged 10-17 years old in juvenile corrective institutions in Australia as a whole and in its States and Territories. In all of Australia in 1993, there were 683 juveniles in corrective institutions, and on December 31, 2000, there were 590 persons in juvenile corrective institutions. A second table shows the rate per 100,000 population in juvenile corrective institutions for Australia as a whole and for its States and Territories. For Australia as a whole, the rate was 33.8 in 1993 and 27.7 in 2000. A third table presents statistics on indigenous and non-indigenous persons in juvenile corrective institutions for Australia as a whole and for its States and Territories by rate per 100,000 relevant population. For Australia as a whole the rate for indigenous persons was 327.77 compared with 24.11 for non-indigenous persons. For the year 2000, the indigenous rate was 267.13, compared to 17.18 for non-indigenous persons. Another table shows the aggregate numbers of indigenous and non-indigenous persons in juvenile corrective institutions over the study period. In all the tables, data are broken down by quarter for each year. 4 tables and 2 figures
