This study examined the institutional backgrounds of persons who published most frequently in criminal justice journals from January 1991 through December 1995.
Abstract
Analysis of the list of institutions granting doctorates to those who contributed most frequently to 8 leading journals during this period revealed that 30 institutions produced the 595 scholars associated with 1,031 contributions, which accounted for 69.18 percent of the usable manuscripts produced by all 143 institutions. A comparison of this list of scholars with the institutional origins of the most-cited scholars revealed some concentration of origin. The analysis concluded that a concentration of institutional origin may be a limiting factor in program development as well as in the character of research produced in criminal justice.
