Abstract
The lead article concerns the drug prevention and treatment program in Wakefield high security prison. Wakefield houses 560 prisoners, many serving life sentences. The prison has begun training uniform staff as Drugs Liaison Officers who, in addition to their regular duties, are responsible to help identify prisoners with drug problems and try to introduce them to services. A second article describes Drugs Treatment and Testing Orders and Arrest Referral Schemes, which will create more demand for drug treatment. The third article describes the benefits of commissioning community based non-medical drug treatment services and bringing them under one umbrella organization. In addition, there are articles with information on: (1) drug prevention and education videos for South Asian parents; (2) the regeneration of run-down areas at community level; (3) an interview with the Director of Public Health, South Staffordshire; (4) Health Promotion England, which is responsible for delivering public education programs; and (5) drugs and crime.
