This report describes the use of gas chromatography (GC) with surface ionization detection (SID) to detect and quantify the presence of the tetracyclic antidepressants mianserin and setipiline in human body fluids in a Japanese laboratory.
Abstract
The study used solid-phase extraction with Bond Elut C18 cartridges to extract the compounds in human samples of whole blood or urine. The recoveries of both compounds from the body fluids were higher than 85 percent. The detection limit of mianserin and setiptiline was about 1 nanogram per milliliter, which was comparable to those obtained by the previous GC-mass spectrometry methods. Findings indicated that this method seemed useful for determining the presence of these antidepressants in forensic and clinical toxicology due to high sensitivity, low background impurities, and easy handling of the GC instrument.
